Picking Up Boat Parts for this Weekend

Though it might seem kind of funny that I would be picking up boat parts (since I am such a mechanic after all), I am picking them up for this weekend because my brother is coming to visit.  He is bringing his boat and he will be working on both our boats so that we are ready for next weekends camping trip.

In fact, he was the one that convinced me to buy the boat in the first place.  I was always worried that I since I wouldn’t know how to fix it or maintain it that I couldn’t handle owning a boat.  But with a little coaxing, I have become quite the little boat owner.

I don’t just let him fix the boats on his own because I want to learn too, so I help out where I can.  I have learned some valuable skills this way including how to tell the difference between Mercruiser parts and Evinrude parts.  Though these sorts of skills might seem insignificant to you, it is helping me to prove that I can actually be handy and maybe someday fix my own boat.  I know that it is going to take awhile before I reach that skill level, but I can see myself making it to that point.  Who knows, someday I might teach my son how to fix his boat!

One of the simplest things you can do to maintain your boat is to keep it clean. Regular washing, waxing, and painting will help protect it from the elements both above and below the waterline.
